The first of three trainsets is expected to arrive in North Bay shortly and will undergo testing before the Northlander service resumes in 2026
Ontario Northland will take delivery of its first of three new Northlander trainsets early in the new year and have released a draft timetable for the return of the Northlander passenger train, showing travel between Timmins and Toronto when service resumes in 2026.
Southbound trains would leave North Bay at 5.55 a.m., stopping in towns including Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, and Huntsville before arriving at Toronto’s Union Station at 10:55 a.m. Northbound service would depart Union Station at 6:30 p.m., reaching Huntsville at 9:35 p.m., then continuing north to Timmins by 5:10 a.m.
The 740-kilometre route includes a connection to Cochrane. Infrastructure upgrades, including a $5.7-million bypass around the North Bay Rail Yard, are expected to reduce travel times by up to 15 minutes. Ticket prices and a firm launch date will be announced once the newly delivered train set completes testing in early 2026.
