Police urge drivers to pull over when you need to use the phone

Huntsville OPP cracked down on distracted driving last week, charging 15 drivers for using handheld devices behind the wheel. The enforcement initiative ran from November 10 to 14 and targeted cell phone use while driving.

Authorities warn the numbers are concerning — in 2024, 82 people died on Ontario highways due to driver inattention, a 43 per cent jump from 2023. Distracted driving carries heavy penalties, including fines, demerit points, license suspensions, and even cancellation for repeat offenses.

Police remind drivers: putting down your phone could save a life.
