Police received reports of active shooters at two provincial parks
Police are investigating after false reports of an active shooter at 2 provincial parks in the region.
West Parry Sound OPP responded to Killbear Provincial Park in Carling Township around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
At the same time, a similar call was made about Bass Lake Provincial Park near Orillia.
Officers confirmed there was no incident at either park. Police are treating the calls as “swatting” and say the investigation is continuing.
Swatting is a criminal harassment tactic that involves making a hoax emergency call to trick first responders into dispatching an armed police to an unsuspecting victim's address.
