Construction will continue into the spring, but a single lane is expected to re-open this week
Muskoka Road 2 near Ilfracombe is expected to reopen to single-lane traffic this week as work continues on a major culvert replacement project at Bittern Creek.
Crews say they have made significant progress, including removing the original culvert—installed in the 1980s—completing fish rescue work, and assembling the new replacement structure.
The Town of Huntsville launched the emergency project after discovering severe corrosion beneath the roadway late last year, making full replacement necessary to protect both the road and the Muskoka River watershed crossing below.
A new polymer-coated culvert is being installed to improve long-term durability and reduce future maintenance issues.
Officials say the single-lane reopening will help ease travel impacts, though intermittent delays are expected as construction continues toward full completion later this spring.
