In total there were 643 wildfires in Ontario this year
Ontario’s 2025 wildfire season has officially ended after more than half a million hectares were scorched by flames.
Fire crews battled 643 blazes between April and October, protecting communities across the province.
This year’s fire activity was far higher than last year, when nearly 90,000 hectares burned. Ontario also sent support to other provinces and Minnesota, with over 400 personnel and six aircraft assisting.
Officials say lessons learned this season will strengthen fire preparedness, including 68 new permanent firefighting positions and plans for six new waterbombers in the coming years.
Ministers praised the bravery and dedication of all frontline and support staff who kept communities safe.
