Fraudsters are acting as phone company representatives offering discounted phones
The OPP is warning about a cellphone scam that could leave victims paying for devices they never keep.
Police say fraudsters are posing as telecommunications company representatives and offering free or heavily discounted phones. Victims provide personal information, only to later discover the phone was financed through their own account.
The scammers then ask victims to return or transfer the device, claiming there was a problem with the financing. Police say the promised refunds or credits never arrive, leaving victims responsible for the payments while the scammers keep the phone.
