The event takes place June 28th & 29th
Mayor, Rick Maloney, announced that The See Through Our Eyes Powwow will return to Bracebridge this year, in the June 11th, 2025, Council meeting.
He said the two-day event will take place on June 28th and 29th at Annie Williams Park, with a ‘sunrise ceremony’ beginning at 5:30 am, and ‘grand entries’ at 12:30 each day.
“What a significant event to have in our community. To have a powwow that is repeating itself in it’s second year, building on the success of it’s first year is remarkable,” said Maloney.
He added that what makes it even more special is that it will be held on the banks of the Muskoka River, traditionally “a place of trade for Indigenous people.”
He said it was also “a place of learning and sharing and teaching,” and expressed appreciation that the ceremony will be held at this location.
Maloney continued that the Town looks forward to the event and encouraged the community to attend with friends and family, especially people that have never been to a powwow, “and experience what truly is in many respects ceremony in itself.”
He also expressed appreciation to the Indigenous community. He said, “We thank our Indigenous brothers and sisters for allowing us to host it in our community.”
According to Muskoka Powwow, their mission is honour and preservation of Indigenous community traditions. They add, “We aim to create a welcoming space for cultural exchange and mutual respect.”
They indicate that their vision “is to foster understanding, unity, and appreciation for Indigenous traditions and values. Through the Annual Traditional Powwow, we aspire to build bridges across communities and generations.”
