The implementation of Community Safety Zones doubles the current fines
School zones across Muskoka are now officially Community Safety Zones, meaning drivers caught speeding could face double the fines.
The OPP and District of Muskoka have teamed up to improve safety near schools in Huntsville and Lake of Bays by installing new signs and boosting patrols.
Fines for speeding in these areas now start at $65 for going 10 over the limit and can hit $450 for going 30 over.
Police say the goal is to protect students, pedestrians, and cyclists by cracking down on risky driving.
