The Save Muskoka Hospital Committee call for more transparency from MAHC

Thursday, 18 September 2025 09:49

The committee is calling on Bracebridge council for transparency and action on hospital redevelopment

The Save South Muskoka Hospital Committee says a recent Bracebridge council meeting was a missed opportunity to get answers from Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare about hospital redevelopment plans.

The group says residents remain in the dark on the provincial review of MAHC’s Stage 1.3 submission and the ongoing closure of the obstetrics unit at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, which has not been operational since March. They warn the situation puts women and newborns at risk and say the community deserves a hospital that meets its growing needs.

The committee is urging Bracebridge council to request a detailed update on Stage 1.3, advocate for adequate bed capacity and service distribution, tie local funding to measurable outcomes, and host regular public forums so residents can have their questions answered directly.

They say MAHC must show it is listening to the community, and the committee remains ready to work constructively with council and provincial leaders to ensure safe and accessible care.
