Police say victims are being offered free phones and discounts
The OPP is warning about fraudsters pretending to be customer service representatives from major phone companies.
Police say victims may receive calls or emails offering account discounts, free phones or special promotions. In one case, a victim was convinced to return newly delivered phones using a shipping label supplied by the fraudster. The phones were actually sent to an unauthorized third party.
Police are advising people to verify any offer directly with their service provider using official contact information.
If you suspect fraud, contact the OPP.
