A major ice storm is expected this weekend, with a prolonged period of freezing rain starting this evening and lasting into Sunday afternoon.
Ice accretion amounts of 5 to 15 millimeters are likely, with some areas seeing over 15 millimeters.
Environment Canada says this could lead to widespread power outages, icy and slippery conditions, and possible snow and ice pellet accumulations of up to 15 centimeters.
Freezing rain will turn to rain by Sunday afternoon as temperatures rise. Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel and take extra care when walking or driving.
