Commemorations will start at River Mill Park
Huntsville will mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with a community gathering and Remembrance Walk on September 30.
The event at River Mill Park begins at 10 a.m. with a Sacred Fire, followed by an Honour Drum and a welcome ceremony. The Remembrance Walk begins at 11:15.
Participants will return to the park afterward for guest speakers and a closing friendship dance.
The Survivors’ Flag will also be raised at Huntsville Civic Square on September 28 at noon and remain there until October 2.
The community is encouraged to wear orange on September 30 to honour residential school Survivors, their families and the children who never returned home.
