The future use of the property is yet to be determined.
The Township of Lake of Bays has purchased the Logging Chain Lodge property in Dwight, securing a well-known landmark across from Dwight Beach and the public boat launch.
Mayor Terry Glover says the acquisition keeps the land in public hands and ensures future development will reflect community priorities rather than private interests.
The lodge, established in 1947 and run by the Tapley family for four generations, will no longer operate as a resort, but the township says the site’s heritage will be preserved in its name.
Plans for the property are still in the early stages, with opportunities for residents to share input in the months ahead.
