Some issues remain unresolved
Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare and the Save South Muskoka Hospital Committee say they’ve had a constructive discussion about plans to redevelop hospitals in Bracebridge and Huntsville.
The groups met on October 21 to discuss hospital locations, obstetrics, transportation and the future of transitional care. One concern raised by the committee is MAHC’s plan to place all transitional care beds at the Huntsville site, which could create challenges for patients and families in South Muskoka.
Both sides say they remain committed to working together, although questions about hospital capacity and access to services remain unresolved.
MAHC is waiting for approval of its next stage of capital redevelopment planning. The project is expected to involve more than $1 billion in provincial funding and local contributions to build two new acute care hospitals in Bracebridge and Huntsville.
