The Fire Dept. is reminding residents to safely recycle old batteries
Huntsville Fire Department is reminding residents to safely dispose of lithium batteries after a recent house call involving a battery that exploded inside a junk drawer.
Fire officials say old batteries, electronics and gadgets can become dangerous if they are damaged or thrown in the regular garbage. In this case, the damage was limited, but firefighters say the outcome could have been much worse.
Residents are reminded to tape battery ends, store batteries in a cool, dry place and drop them off at a proper recycling location. Fire officials say small steps can help prevent serious fires.
