The province is seeking to introduce new rules on rideshare services
The province is seeking public input on a proposed Northern Rideshare Pilot aimed at improving transportation along the Northlander train corridor. The plan would introduce consistent, province-wide rules for app-based rideshare services in communities from Gravenhurst to Cochrane.
Officials say the goal is to boost first and last-mile connections, especially in rural and northern areas where options can be limited. While the pilot program could improve mobility, there are concerns about impacts on existing taxi services and challenges like limited cell coverage and long travel distances. Public feedback is open for five more days.
