Carbon Monoxide Awareness week starts Monday
Bracebridge Fire is reminding residents to check their carbon monoxide alarms ahead of Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week, running November 1 to 7.
Carbon monoxide is an odourless, invisible gas that can be deadly. Homes with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces or an attached garage must have alarms beside sleeping areas and on every storey.
Fire officials recommend testing alarms monthly and having furnaces, fireplaces and other fuel-burning appliances inspected every year.
If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, or anyone experiences symptoms such as dizziness, nausea or headaches, get outside immediately and call 9-1-1. Never run a barbecue or gas-powered generator indoors or in an enclosed space.
