Drivers must stop whenever a crossing guard displays a stop sign
The OPP is reminding drivers that they must stop whenever a school crossing guard displays a stop sign, including when making a left or right turn.
The requirement applies to traffic approaching from both directions, and drivers must remain stopped until the guard and all pedestrians have safely cleared the roadway. Police say failing to stop can result in charges and put children at risk. Motorists are also being urged to slow down and stay alert in school zones.
