Table Soup Foundation to keep fundraising for Table Plaza project

Tuesday, 23 June 2026 09:37

Founder Heather Cassie says the Table will submit new applications for funding from the District

The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation says it will keep pushing forward with plans to build an emergency shelter and extreme weather centre in Huntsville, despite being turned down for district funding.

The organization had requested 1.2 million dollars to help cover construction and staffing costs for a proposed facility in the Table Plaza. In a Facebook post, founder Heather Cassie says the organization will regroup, continue fundraising, and submit a new application under the District’s updated grants process.

The plan would convert existing space into a year-round emergency shelter with added supports through nearby Table ministries, aimed at people experiencing homelessness and those in crisis during extreme weather.

Cassie says the group believes the project remains a strong solution for the community and intends to come back with a stronger proposal for future funding cycles.
